A Minmo Agent Needs More Than a Bitcoin Balance
Practical lessons on trust, customer relationships, and liquidity from the Minmo Agent Meetup
Jodom
A Bitcoin balance can help an agent fund a swap. It cannot make the right customers find you, understand your service, or trust you to follow through.
At the Minmo Agent Meetup on 12 September 2026, agents worked through what dependable local service looks like in practice. The conversation focused on three connected jobs: becoming easier to find, helping customers understand each swap, and protecting the cash and Bitcoin needed to keep serving them.
This is the first article in our agent-education stream: practical lessons from the people building Bitcoin services in their communities.
Be visible, then be useful

The group suggested simple ways to make an agent service recognisable: a Minmo shirt, a poster, a “Bitcoin accepted here” sign, or “Minmo Agent” on a WhatsApp or social profile. The purpose is not decoration. It is to help someone recognise the service, know what it offers, and start a conversation.
That conversation is where the real work begins.
An agent should be able to explain the quote, payment method, next step, and likely timing in plain language. If a customer asks something you do not know, say so and check before answering. Several attendees described education as part of the job: helping someone understand a wallet or the difference between buying and selling Bitcoin may be more useful than another advert.
Visibility creates the opportunity. Useful, honest service gives someone a reason to return.
Start with people who already know you

For a first customer, agents pointed to existing business customers, friends, family, people met at Bitcoin events, and local community groups. These are relationships where a conversation can begin naturally—not an invitation to send the same promotion to everyone in your contacts.
Start by asking what someone is trying to do and how they handle it today. At an event or in a group, contribute useful answers before promoting your service. A good experience can lead to a referral, but that referral has to be earned through clear communication and reliable follow-through.
Agents also discussed sharing evidence of their work. A completed-swap count can show activity and experience, but it does not prove reliability on its own. Never expose a customer’s name, contact details, balance, or transaction information. Ask permission before using anyone’s story or testimonial.
Know what every swap does to your liquidity

The liquidity exercise followed Brian, a thrift-store owner adding agent services to his business. Brian might have cash for an off-ramp today but need the same money to restock his shop tomorrow. For him, “available” is a business decision—not simply the balance shown in a wallet.
The direction of a swap changes what an agent has available:
- In an on-ramp, the customer receives Bitcoin. The agent’s Bitcoin balance falls while their cash balance rises.
- In an off-ramp, the customer receives cash. The agent receives Bitcoin while their cash balance falls.
Before accepting either kind of swap, decide what you can safely offer. Keep the money needed for your main business, household, and other commitments separate from agent liquidity.
Agents discussed replenishing Bitcoin through exchanges, other agents they know, Bitcoin-paid work, or sales from a business that accepts Bitcoin. An agent who wants to build a Bitcoin balance might favour off-ramps, but only while keeping enough cash for customers and existing commitments.
Liquidity is not only about completing the next swap. It is about remaining ready for the one after it.
Put one lesson to work this week

Choose one practical change and test it for seven days:
- Make your agent service clear on one profile, poster, or sign.
- Have five genuine conversations with people who already know you.
- Decide the minimum cash and Bitcoin balances you will protect.
- Record the swaps you complete, the swaps that fail, and any problem you need to resolve.
At the end of the week, review what happened. Which conversations led to a real need? Did you have enough liquidity for the swaps customers wanted? Did anyone return or refer someone else? What will you change next week?
The answers are more useful than a large number of impressions or messages. They show whether your service is becoming clearer, more dependable, and easier to recommend.
If you already serve customers as a Minmo Agent, try the seven-day practice and share one lesson or blocker with your agent community.
